The International Alliance of Waste Pickers (IAWP) seeks a dynamic, motivated, dedicated individual to fill the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Coordinator position. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the work of waste pickers across the Latin America and Caribbean region, supporting IAWP Affiliates, and engaging in campaign and advocacy work.

Position: Latin America and Caribbean Regional Coordinator 

Location: Latin America (Flexible, with travel within the region)

Contract Type: 20 days a month, with a probation period of 3 months. The contract will be up to 31st December 2027

Remuneration: Maximum 1800 USD per month, all inclusive

Start Date: 15th July 2026 (preferred) or 1st August 2026


Key Responsibilities:

  • Regional Secretariat: Manage day-to-day coordination of LAC regional affiliates, including building and maintaining relationships with members of the Regional Executive Council and office bearers in the region. Engage with existing affiliates to foster relationships, provide necessary support, and identify and undertake outreach for potential affiliates. Prepare and distribute minutes of regional meetings, including those involving affiliates and the Regional Executive Council members. Managing budgetary allocations for projects and reporting in the region. Supervise any ongoing projects within the region. Share news and updates regarding work in the region. Facilitating the participation of worker leaders from the area in the subcommittees
  • Advocacy: Provide advocacy support for regional and international advocacy efforts, including campaigns
  • Worker Education: Coordinate training sessions with external trainers, both in person and virtually, to assist affiliates with capacity building.
  • Events and Campaigns: Oversee and manage virtual and in-person events and campaigns organised by IAWP or its regional bodies in the region.
  • Research: Supervise or commission research projects within the region
  • Partnership management: Manage regional partnerships, including potential fundraising efforts. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience of 5 years in organising workers in trade unions, associations, cooperatives or any other democratic member-based organisation, preferably waste pickers or other workers in the informal economy. 
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by waste pickers and the informal waste and recycling sector.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, multicultural team.
  • Fluency in Spanish and a working knowledge of English are required.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the region.
