Shanti Tamang is a waste worker leader from Nepal who has navigated significant social and economic challenges while working in the informal sector. Through lived experience, she developed a strong commitment to collective empowerment and community organization among informal waste workers.
As Chairperson of Samyukta Safai Jagaran, Nepal’s first organization of informal waste workers, she has led the creation of a savings and credit cooperative and continues to advocate for recognition, financial inclusion, and the expansion of organized waste picker networks across the country.
