Abel Balderas Ramírez comes from a family of waste pickers and began working in the sector at the age of eight. His lifelong involvement has shaped his leadership within the Mexican waste picker movement.

As President of the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Association and a leader within the national movement of waste pickers in Mexico, he works to strengthen organization and representation. He also contributes to regional coordination through REDLACRE and to global governance within IAWP.
