International Alliance of Waste Pickers

Constitution Launching Congress

On October 29th, 2022 we held a Virtual Congress to launch our Constitution, which allowed us to formalize ourselves as an international organization of waste pickers.

It all began in 2005, when we started RedLacre, the Latin American Network of Recyclers. Four years later, we formed the Global Alliance of Waste Pickers (GlobalRec). Fast forward to 2022, after a long period of growing an international network without a formal registration, the launch of our Constitution finally gave us the foundation to build a solid, bottom-up waste picker global organization. Through a constitutive process, we developed a joint vision that we hope will allow us to achieve a worldwide unity of waste pickers.

On October 29th, 2022 we held a Virtual Congress to launch our Constitution, a milestone for us which has allowed us to formalize ourselves as an international organization of waste pickers.

As the Preamble to the Constitution notes, through the Constitution:

“we reaffirm, order, and establish the purposes and objectives of our international alliance, the scope of and differences within our trade, the scope of our advocacy tools, our organizational principles and incorporation requirements, our central coordination structure, the duties of our office bearers, and the rights and duties of our affiliates.”

The Virtual Congress is available to watch in the following languages: English, Español, Português, Français, বাংলা ভাষা Bengali, हिन्दी Hindi, Bahasa Indonesian, मराठी Marathi, Wolof, नेपाली Nepalese, and Türk / Turkish.
